Report: A person with a “abrasive personality” is leaving Tottenham, and many fans won’t be sad about it

Todd Kline was not a well-liked player at Tottenham Hotspur, so the team won’t be too concerned about his leaving, according to Football Finance expert Kieran Maguire.

Kline worked at AEG, in sports talent and property sales, and with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins before joining the Spurs as chief commercial officer in early 2021.

Matt Law said earlier this month that the American had left the North London team, been put on gardening leave, and would be joining Chelsea, a rival team in London.

Soccer.Kline was hired to Spurs primarily to find a naming rights partner for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as later disclosed by London’s Alasdair Gold.

The journalist clarified, however, that the club chose to postpone that procedure because of the unforeseen advantages that the Tottenham brand experienced as a result of maintaining the generic name while holding significant events there, such NFL games and music concerts.

Given that Kline was unable to secure a naming rights agreement for Stamford Bridge during his time at Spurs, Maguire is a little taken aback by Chelsea’s choice to assign him this duty.

“If Todd Kline is tasked with a naming rights deal at Chelsea, then good luck to him,” Maguire said to Football Insider. Given his sometimes harsh demeanor, there wasn’t a large line of supporters at Spurs wishing him a happy retirement.

Chelsea made an odd choice, in my opinion, as he had multiple jobs, but he did not perform well in the most crucial one.

“Devoted Chelsea supporters will always refer to Stamford Bridge as Stamford Bridge. Putting a new name on it won’t be financially advantageous as a result.

“They might hear a few mentions of an Apple or Nike Stamford Bridge in the media, but fans won’t use those terms frequently. We’ve observed at other teams that it typically only functions when sponsors are involved from the start.

Spurs  Views

Given Kline’s involvement in the NFL and American business circles, Todd Boehly would have most certainly known him. Every move Boehly makes seems to be plunging Chelsea into a bigger and bigger hole, which is amusing to watch as a Spurs supporter.
