‘I think’… Alan Brazil now makes claim about Leeds United’s automatic promotion hopes after this week

The automatic promotion race took another fresh twist for Leeds United this week.

The Whites sit in the top two at the end of a game week for the first time all season following Tuesday’s 4-0 win at Swansea City, but it is still far from over at this stage.

Southampton’s 22-match unbeaten run came to an end at Bristol City, though Ipswich Town sent a statement of intent to those around them after a difficult period of form with a 4-0 win at Millwall.

Leeds now sit two points ahead of Southampton and three above Ipswich with a far superior goal difference over the two sides, but both have games in hand that will take place next week.

Alan Brazil has provided his latest prediction on the automatic promotion race on talkSPORT and believes the momentum Leeds have generated over the last few weeks will be ‘hard to stop’.

Brazil predicts automatic promotion race

He said: “I think Leeds have got so much momentum at the moment. They’re going to be hard to stop. But don’t write Saints off. Leicester have won it, but don’t write Saints off.”

Brazil had thought Leeds were destined for the play-offs a matter of weeks ago but a run of seven wins in a row has all of a sudden changed it all around.

However, that shows how quickly it can turn around. A prolonged period of bad form could leave you left behind because the form of others is so relentless.

This sort of standard at the top of the Championship has never been seen before and it is probably going to take a record number of points to finish in the top two. Leicester City, meanwhile, are likely to break the points record.

Leeds just have to keep pushing with the form they are currently in because it is unlikely that the other two will be dropping off anytime soon.
