As early Team News indicated, King wants Ange to bench the misfiring Tottenham forward against Wolves

As early Team News indicated, King wants Ange to bench the misfiring Tottenham forward against Wolves.

Former Spurs scout Bryan King believes Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou should bench Timo Werner and start Brennan Johnson against Wolves this weekend.

On Saturday, February 17, Spurs will host Gary O’Neil’s team at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in an attempt to win six straight Premier League games at home.

With a 2-1 victory over Brighton on Saturday, February 10, Ange Postecoglou’s team is hoping to win back-to-back games for the first time since mid-December. This comes after Johnson’s dramatic late-game winner against Brighton.

With the return of Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma, and Son Hueung-min in recent weeks, Tottenham is nearly back to full strength, and King thinks Postecoglou ought to make some adjustments this weekend.

King spoke exclusively to Tottenham News, “I think Johnson has done well; he has been good so far for me this season. I would like him to start.

“Postecoglou seems to be sticking with Werner, though I’m not sure if he’s expecting for this significant development or not.

Son will enter from the left, and Johnson should be chosen over Werner from the right. I believe Postecoglou may want to start Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski; if Johnson does not play well toward the conclusion of the game, Kulusevski may be brought in.

Three points are needed for Tottenham.

In their quest to qualify for the UEFA Champions League once more next season, Spurs are engaged in an extremely competitive competition for the top four spots.

The North London team is under pressure from Aston Villa and Manchester United, and Postecoglou and his players will understand that making a mistake is not an option.

Now that Spurs have been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions, every game is a cup final. The team’s fate will be decided by the 14 games they have remaining to play until May.

Postecoglou wants to lead Tottenham to the Champions League once more.

Johnson’s game-winning goal against Brighton will give him confidence, and if he starts against Wolves, he might continue to build on it and lead the home team to yet another crucial three points.

Though Werner has had some impressive moments, he hasn’t had the necessary impact in the last third, and it seems unlikely that the 27-year-old will play a lot of minutes now that Son is back at Hotspur Way.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou will be overjoyed that one first-team Spurs player’s contract update is “positive,” according to an agent.
