Reportedly, Tottenham has received a substantial bid; nevertheless, the club is probably open to selling, and the player might need persuading

Sport brings further updates on the issue in the wake of the shocking report that Tottenham has launched a €60 million approach to acquire Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.

Jijantes first reported that Spurs had extended a four-year contract to the Dutchman, which would have allowed him to match his salary at the La Liga team if he fulfilled certain requirements.

After relaying all of this, Sport adds tidbits from various radio and TV programs to help paint a bigger picture and shed light on what Tottenham’s proposal would entail.

First off, it is made very evident that Barcelona will not let De Jong to “escape” and would rather that he agree to a new deal that would require him to adjust to “the new economic reality” of the team.

According to RAC1 and the article, that would result in him receiving more than half of his salary, which would drop from over €30 million annually (they still owe him money from the epidemic that was delayed) to “close to €15 million annually.”

The Catalan club is “considering other scenarios,” like moving him, as they have not heard anything from the player or his entourage regarding the negotiations for a new deal.

They would act in this way because they are aware that they could get rid of a player who earns the highest salary at the team and obtain a “good price.”

The midfield player’s desires must also be taken into consideration; Sport recently cited a story from TV3 journalist Lluis Canut on this subject.

De Jong is reportedly “disappointed by the current reality” at Barcelona and is open to signing with a new team if they have “aspirations of winning the Champions League.”

Although Spurs still need to guarantee their spot in the tournament for the following season, we’re not sure if they now fit that description, there’s no doubting the significant changes that have occurred at the team in the few months since Ange Postecoglou came command.

De Jong’s aspirations may be lowered by the manager and Daniel Levy with a strong conversation, at least for the upcoming campaign. However, we’ll first have to wait and see what happens with this rumored €60 million deal and whether Barcelona considers it.

Club ‘expecting’ Tottenham to spend €20m on player – Clearly impressing Postecoglou with performances

RB Leipzig are ‘expecting’ Tottenham to activate a purchase option in Timo Werner’s loan deal at the end of the season.

That’s according to SportBILD, who say Leipzig believe the German will be staying in Ange Postecoglou’s team in the long-term.

Werner joined Tottenham on loan in the January transfer window after falling down the pecking order at Leipzig and barely featuring this season.

He wanted to secure regular playing time between now and the end of the season, hoping to get back to full fitness and at his best ahead of Germany hosting Euro 2024 in the summer, where he would want to be in Julian Nagelsmann’s squad.

He’s been a hit at Tottenham so far, with two assists in five games in all competitions to date and a regular spot under Ange Postecoglou.

Those numbers are not awe inspiring by any means, but it appears Leipzig are receiving signals from Tottenham they are happy with the player and are thus, ‘expecting’ them to spend €20m to make his loan a permanent switch.

Whether that actually happens remains to be seen, of course, but for now it seems, in Germany at least, they believe Werner will be returning to the Premier League permanently in the summer.
