According to Fabrizio Romano, the club had “secret talks” in January about signing the Tottenham star.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Sociedad and Tottenham Hotspur had “secret talks” about a possible Bryan Gil trade during the transfer window that ended last month.

Gil was strongly linked to loan moves to Lazio (Daniele Trecca) and Brighton (Daily Mail), but the winger ultimately stayed in North London.

In response to a question last week regarding the 22-year-old’s decision to stay, Ange Postecoglou stated that he is pleased with the amount of effort the Spaniard is putting forth in training and that it is not his place to “push people out” (Football.London).

Football Insider reported on Saturday that the former Sevilla player had rejected many offers during the January transfer window and that Postecoglou intended to give him consistent playing time in the upcoming months.

Bryan Gil

Bryan Gil Romano, the victim of Real Sociedad’s unsuccessful bid for the player, has taken to social media to disclose that in addition to the clubs already named, Sociedad also discussed Gil’s loan signing, engaging in “secret talks” with Spurs.

The reporter clarified, meanwhile, that the La Liga team was unable to meet the requirements that Tottenham need in order to close the transaction.

In the last days of the window, Gil rejected offers to stay at Hotspur Way from Brighton and Feyenoord, according to Romano.

View Twitter Opinion for Spurs

The fact that other teams expressed interest in loaning Gil is not shocking, but Gil seems to have been adamant about staying at Tottenham because he believes he can push his way into Postecoglou’s plans.

But I can’t help but believe that he will find it difficult, especially now that Spurs are eliminated from the cup events. Son, 22, will struggle to gain any playing time once he gets back from the Asian Cup and Solomon and Lo Celso get well.
