Tottenham pulled off quite the coup right at the end of the transfer window.

After beating Manchester United and Bayern Munich to the signings of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin respectively, Spurs then elbowed Barcelona out of the way in the race to sign Lucas Bergvall in the final hours of the window.

Bergvall is a new Spurs player, and according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Spurs made a really important proposal to the player around what his future at Spurs could look like.

Indeed, according to Romano, Spurs pointed towards Pape Matar Sarr’s development in recent years as a path that Bergvall could follow if he signed for Tottenham.

Tottenham used Sarr to help sign Bergvall

Romano shared what he knows about these negotiations.

“Bergvall was almost a Barcelona player, 90% of the process to sign Bergvall was completed, everything was going in the right way, but then Bergvall decided to join Tottenham. They offered more money to his club, but also an important project. They showed him the process of some of the players at the club like Pape Sarr who joined from France and became an important player for Tottenham with some time. They are offering Bergvall the chance to join the first squad in the summer immediately. He had a good conversation with Ange Postecoglou, who is making the difference,” Romano said.

Vision

This will be a huge asset for Spurs in the coming years as they look to sign more and more talented young players.

If Tottenham can prove that this is the perfect club for young players to come in and blossom, then they will attract more and more fantastic young talents.

That’s already started with Bergvall, and if the Swedish midfielder does follow Sarr’s path, don’t be shocked if Spurs becomes a top destination for young players in the coming years.
