Ange Postecoglou reportedly pushed hard to sign in January, and Spurs were content to wait

Thanks in large part to Ange Postecoglou’s efforts in convincing the Tottenham Hotspur board that he required Radu Dragusin for his project, the signing of the player this month was made possible.

Tottenham needed a new center-back badly going into the New Year, especially with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s absences being felt throughout the team.

Radu Dragusin was the Spurs’ solution to that issue, as was evident early in the month. However, because Bayern Munich was interested in the 21-year-old, what initially appeared to be a straightforward trade turned difficult.

Dragusin ultimately decided to play for Tottenham rather than the German powerhouses, and it’s believed he did so because he felt more appreciated by the North London team and manager Ange Postecoglou (GSP via Sport Witness).

It’s thought that Postecoglou spoke with Dragusin before the transfer to let him know exactly how he would fit into his Tottenham project (Football.London).

Dragusin deal was lobbied for by Postecoglou.

It has now come to light that Postecoglou was the one who not only persuaded Dragusin to sign, but also pressured the team to do so. The Australian wanted the player be signed this month rather than waiting until the summer, according to a report from The Sun.

The defender’s previous team, Genoa, “were happy to do a quick deal” to trade Dragusin, but Tottenham “would have held on for longer,” according to sources. Nevertheless, Postecoglou “wanted him so much” that the decision was eventually made.

Spurs Views

To be honest, I’m relieved that Postecoglou seems to have a lot of power at the club to accomplish what he wants. We have been pleading with the board for years to support the manager, but it goes beyond that—they must genuinely have total faith in the manager, and it appears that this is beginning to happen.
