“Nasty”: Newcastle United faces a new double injury concern against Luton Town, with 12 players ruled out

Edgar Krafth and Anthony Gordon are facing fresh injury concerns, according to Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe.

The Magpies were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in the quarterfinals due to penalties after Mykhailo Mudryk’s equaliser in stoppage time.

To make matters worse, United had to watch as Gordon hobbled off shortly after halftime and Krafth withdrew.

When Moises Caicedo dragged his studs down the back of the winger’s calf, Gordon sustained an injury in the first minutes of play. Levi Colwill also threw down a fierce challenge to Krafth.

“Emil was too sore to continue,” Howe clarified. He currently feels a lot of pain from a nasty gash on his shin.

Anthony is not different. It seemed like a pretty bad tackle on him to me. Our attacking player was taken out of the game by a tackle that you really don’t want to see. He’s hurting a lot right now.

“Should a red card have been given? Although I haven’t seen it again and it’s too difficult to say for sure, other people’s opinions indicate that they believe it was.

Better news for Newcastle: Sven Botman survived the first forty-five minutes at Stamford Bridge.

The Dutchman made his first start since September before Dan Burn made a prearranged substitution at halftime.

“Sven was planned; 45 minutes was the right step for him,” Howe stated. He performed admirably, in my opinion, so that was definitely a plus.

That being said, Howe’s team keeps getting hurt. The Magpies are still without 12 senior players for their trip to Luton Town on Saturday, as Joelinton and Fabian Schar are unlikely to make a comeback.
