Journalist Ben Jacobs has disclosed that Tottenham Hotspur would face competition from Chelsea and West Ham United for Bayer Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah.

For the better part of a decade, Tah has been a stalwart in the Leverkusen defense and has established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most reliable center backs.

With 18 months remaining on his Bay Arena deal, the 27-year-old has been linked to Tottenham, according to Kicker a few days ago.

The German international, according to the source, was eager to join the Premier League and his contract had a €18 million (£15.4 million) release clause that could be triggered the following summer.

It was clarified, nonetheless, that Xabi Alonso’s team does not want to lose a player of such caliber in the middle of the season.

Competition exists for Jonathan Tah by Spurs.

Jacobs has now verified that, in fact, Tottenham is closely monitoring Tah in front of the January transfer window.

But he also revealed that they are not alone in their admiration for the Leverkusen player, who is also being watched by the Blues and the Hammers.

“Tah has been looked at by Chelsea, who want a center-back, Spurs, and West Ham, with the latter also admiring Hincapie,” the journalist said to CaughtOffside.

I would be shocked if Leverkusen traded any of their star players in January considering how likely they are to maintain a title threat this season and how likely they are to win the Europa League.
