Barcelona’s primary midfield target for January is Giovani Lo Celso of Tottenham Hotspur, according to a report published on November 23 by Mundo Deportivo.

Following Gavi’s severe injury, reports surfaced suggesting the La Liga team may search for a replacement as early as next month. Lo Celso has always been admired by Xavi Hernández, who has been pushed forward as a target once more after failing to land him in the summer.

According to a report by AS, Barca was not able to sign the Tottenham player during the previous window, and they are now considering making an approach during the winter transfer window.

Although there were rumors that the 27-year-old’s contract was dead when Tottenham played Barca in a friendly in August, it is said that the door had opened for the Catalan team to sign him in July.

During the summer, Xavi’s team and the agent of the Argentina international kept in regular contact, but Spurs declined to hold talks.

This is due to Deco’s and former Barca sporting director Mateu Alemany’s desire for Ange Postecoglou’s team to foot a portion of the player’s salary rather than “pay a single euro” to sign him on loan. Tottenham killed the deal, so it’s clear that didn’t sit well with them.

According to recent reports from England, Xavi is pressuring Deco to pursue Lo Celso in a different manner. After relaying that, AS states that Barcelona has “not yet made any move” for the midfield player from Tottenham.

As Lo Celso has been playing more recently, AS has stated that he may be “essential” for Postecoglou, particularly with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr attending the AFCON.

Even though AS asserts that Barca hasn’t made any moves for the South American, it’s unlikely they would succeed even in that scenario. especially on the same terms as previously.
