After Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace of the Premier League expressed interest in winger Jacob Murphy, Newcastle United reportedly set a high asking price.

Under Eddie Howe, Murphy has been an important member of Newcastle’s team. Murphy was the player who had played in the most games for the team under Howe prior to the start of the current campaign.

He’s a popular guy at Newcastle both on and off the field thanks to his versatility and character; Howe calls him ‘a brilliant team player’. Murphy had shoulder surgery, which will keep him out of action for a considerable amount of time. Despite this, he has scored once in his last four Premier League games this year.

Murphy cost Newcastle £12 million when he joined the team in 2017. Since then, he has made 156 appearances and scored 10 goals. Murphy was previously with Norwich City. Unless they can almost double the amount they paid for the player, the Magpies are not likely to let go of the injured winger.

Football Insider claims that should Newcastle receive an offer of between £20 and £25 million, they would think about allowing Murphy to leave. According to reports, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest have both enquired about the 28-year-old’s availability and possible cost.

However, Newcastle would only think about allowing Murphy to go if they got an offer that was too good to refuse. In this instance, a bid exceeding £20 million might be sufficient.

Hurt last month against Arsenal, Murphy will be out until the end of the January transfer window with a dislocated shoulder.
