Eric Dier, a defender for Tottenham Hotspur, is reportedly seriously considering going back to Sporting Lisbon, according to talkSPORT.

Dier’s slim chances of making a comeback for Tottenham appeared to be dashed last week against Aston Villa when Ange Postecoglou started Emerson Royal in place of the 29-year-old, the only senior center-back who was healthy.

The only thing left to decide seems to be whether the England international will sign a new contract this summer or wait until the next transfer window to depart.

Sporting Lisbon and Roma are reportedly considering moves for the center-back, who Spurs chairman Daniel Levy plans to demand in January, according to a report published in The Daily Mirror last month.

Dier was left out of Postecoglou’s starting lineup for Sunday’s 3-3 draw at Manchester City due to an injury that the England international sustained during practice prior to the matchup with the Premier League leaders.

Dier is thinking about going back to Sporting.

According to the most recent update from talkSPORT, Dier is now “seriously considering” going back to the Portuguese team where he started his career before moving to Tottenham in 2014.

The source notes that the Spurs star will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs starting next month, but it does not specify whether the center-back wants to move to Lisbon in January or summer of next year.

The publication also reveals that Tottenham offered Dier to various Premier League clubs in the summer, however ,the defender’s preference was to move abroad.
