Although Ian Poveda’s inclusion in Colombia’s squad for their December matches has come as a bit of a surprise to the Leeds United player, it could potentially benefit youngster Mateo Joseph.

This season, Poveda, 23, has made six appearances for Leeds in the Championship. He has actually participated in 17 of our 19 Championship games this season. In 11 of those games, a substitute was not used. however, a standard cog.

Therefore, when Colombia revealed their squad for their matches against Venezuela and Mexico this month, it caught them off guard a little on Monday. a group of players who are permitted and available by the club, akin to a B-team.

That license has been given to Poveda. He won’t be available for our next three games because Colombia is playing on December 10 and then on December 16. On match day, Leeds will need to replace the winger in their lineup.

The sudden absence of Ian Poveda could be advantageous for Mateo Joseph.

That might give Joseph the opportunity to reenter. The England U20, who was born in Spain, played six times at the senior level and was a regular member of the Leeds team on twelve occasions last season.

Joseph has had to deal with injuries this season. He has only appeared in two matchday squads and has not played for the senior team. Joe Gelhardt was sidelined against Middlesbrough due to an injury. Joseph follows.

If Gelhardt is still sidelined, Joseph will undoubtedly start in place of Poveda against Blackburn. Given that he can play both wide and up top, this could give the attacker a chance to make a comeback.

Daniel Farke used Joseph both up top and out wide during the preseason. He is therefore the clear choice to replace Poveda. Joseph might have a path back in the needed 20-year-old thanks to Poveda’s unexpected visit.
